When your toddler is first learning to walk, it’s important to use skid proof baby shoes while they’re still gaining confidence and developing their balance. Many rubber soles will be skid-proof. Make sure the surface of the sole isn’t too smooth, and that the treads aren’t too deep—they could catch and be a tripping hazard. Still, most sneakers will work well. Check leather-soled shoes to make sure the texture isn’t too smooth for your child’s motor skill levels, or for your floor.
